When a patient undergoes a CT scan, they are exposed to a series of X-ray beams that pass through their body from multiple angles. Each beam is attenuated or reduced in intensity as it passes through different tissues with varying densities. For example, bones absorb more X-rays than soft tissues, leading to different levels of attenuation.

After passing through the body, the X-rays are detected by an array of sensors on the opposite side. These sensors record the amount of radiation that has passed through the body and send this data to a computer. The computer then processes this information using complex algorithms to reconstruct a detailed image of the internal structures.

These reconstructed images can be viewed in various planes, allowing doctors to diagnose conditions such as tumors, fractures, and other abnormalities with high precision. The ability to visualize the body in three dimensions makes CT scans invaluable for both diagnosis and treatment planning.
